December 3rd - December 4th // Yellowknife Multiplex
PowerUp! Career Exploration Workshops provide Grade 8 students throughout the Northwest Territories with an opportunity to learn about exciting careers through participation in various interactive workshops.
What are Career Exploration Workshops?
In advance of the workshops, participating students are invited to select from a variety of workshop themes. Students will be assigned a workshop theme based on their identified preferences, and based on the order that their registration forms are received by Skills Canada NWT.
The day-long event begins with students gathering at the Multiplex Gymnasium to register and receive a gift from Skills Canada NWT. Students will then be grouped according to their assigned workshop theme along with a teacher/volunteer chaperone who will remain with each group throughout the day. A brief welcoming address and opening ceremony will then kick off the event in the Multiplex Gymnasium. Following the opening ceremony, students and chaperones will board buses that will take them to the location of their workshops. Throughout the day students will participate in various interactive and hands-on activities that will teach them about various occupations within their assigned theme.
Lunch is provided to all students and chaperones at their workshop location. At 2:00 PM students return, by bus, to the Multiplex Gymnasium where Skills Canada NWT and guests will deliver brief closing remarks to close out the event. Students then return to their school by the end of the school day.
